Kiln 0.1.7 Current
Added
- The setup check offers to install the second web server once the first one is in (thanks, Jovan Sitaric)
- New sites suggest a hostname from the display name, and a folder for it under your Sites folder (thanks, Jovan Sitaric)
- A Sites folder setting; the default is "Kiln Sites" in your home folder
- A setting to keep Kiln running in the tray or menu bar when the window is closed (on, as before), with a one-time hint the first time it happens (thanks, Jovan Sitaric)
- Installing WordPress, MODX, Joomla or Grav now finishes the app's own setup for you: admin user, password and site title are set, and the admin login is on screen when it's done (thanks, Jovan Sitaric and Ivan Kancijan)
- Settings → Application defaults: admin username, email, password policy, site title, locale, table prefixes, collation, and what to open after an install (thanks, Jovan Sitaric)
- The collation fields in Application defaults and MariaDB settings offer the standard utf8mb4 collations to pick from, and still take any name typed in
- The install dialog starts MariaDB if it is stopped, and falls back to the vendor's web installer with the database details when the automatic step can't run
- Design builds a complete WordPress block theme: theme.json with your palette, fonts and spacing by name, templates, header and footer parts, a pattern library with a starter per page, Dark and harmony style variations, a section style per colour, and a screenshot. After a build Kiln can activate the theme, set the site icon and logo, and create your pages (thanks, Ivan Kancijan)
- Kiln checks for a newer version shortly after it starts (Settings can turn that off), and About has Check for updates with Download and Restart and install
Changed
- Settings is split into sections (General, Servers, Applications, PHP, Certificates, Appearance, Logs, License) with a search box that finds and highlights any setting; Ctrl+F or ⌘F jumps to it, and a Save bar appears only when something changed
- A Kiln command line for scripts and AI agents is specified in docs/KILN-CLI.md, to be built after launch (thanks, Ivan Kancijan)
Fixed
- Kiln can no longer be stuck with an empty window after "Restart as Administrator": a window that fails to load or draw is noticed, "Start as Administrator" is turned off, and Kiln restarts normally and says so; the tray menu also gains "Restart without Administrator" while running elevated (thanks, David)
- A window Kiln cannot paint restarts once with hardware acceleration off, and the main process now keeps a log file (data/logs/kiln.log) so a report can say what happened
- Saving Settings now follows through: a changed server address, default server, LAN setting or port updates the hosts file, rewrites the server configs and restarts running servers; a changed MariaDB port updates every php.ini and restarts MariaDB. The Save bar says what it did
- A Sites folder chosen in Settings now reaches the New Site dialog straight away, not after a restart
- Saving a site with no name, hostname or folder now says which field is missing and jumps to it (thanks, Jovan Sitaric)
